WAITING ON THE LORD.
The Official SSP Newsletter: Issue 1

Over the past couple of years, the Dominica committee has been actively involved in seeking a site for a church building in Dominica. We were told about one seemingly suitable site in January 2004 but it somehow didn’t feel just right so we waited. A couple of other possibilities came up during the past year but again none of them seemed like God’s choice so we kept waiting. This past January, it seemed that time was running out so we were getting ready to have to choose from among the sites we had seen in the past year. However, just before we had to choose, we became aware of another site being offered for sale. We looked at that one and liked it very much. One of our sisters in Dominica later had a dream in which she saw the church members coming from a church meeting at this building. God had revealed to us the site of the church building! We had to wait, wait, wait until almost the last minute but God answered our request at just the right time, making us wonder why we would have questioned whether God would provide what was needed in the appropriate timeframe.

In this day and age of instant information, we have become accustomed to getting immediate answers to our questions and requests. There is nothing wrong with this when it pertains to answers that can be obtained from a computer. However, God is not a computer. He is not our servant – we are His. He not only knows the right answers but also knows when it is the right time to share the information with us. He not only sets the direction but also knows when it is the right time for His plans to be carried out.

Although it may be frustrating for us at times, we must wait on the Lord if we want to do what is right in His sight. If we get impatient, we will wind up choosing from the options that are in front of us at the time and we will either choose incorrectly or the best option may not even be known to us yet!

There are several examples of this in my own life:

1. By waiting until my senior year of college to choose a profession, I was able to be directed toward a career in computers which has been much more suitable to my talents than a career in law would have been (which would have been my choice prior to that).

2. I didn’t get married until I was 29 years old. It was sometimes frustrating waiting for the “right girl to come along? but she finally did and after 19 years of being happily married, I’m glad I waited for her.

3. When I was young in the church, there was not that much opportunity for the young to work for the church (these were the pre-YIA days). Rather than commit my time and energy to other pursuits, I did what I could for the church and waited for the opportunity to do more. Today, I am blessed with the opportunity to devote many hours to church work and it was definitely worth waiting for.

So, as you make choices in your life, especially choices that will have a great effect on your life, don’t settle for the best available option. Seek out the Lord’s direction. While you make it a matter of prayer and put it in God’s hands, wait for His response. It may take longer than you would like it to (maybe a lot longer) but you will wind up with the right answer at the right time and be much happier and blessed as a result. Trust in God and make up your mind to accept nothing less than what God wants for you in your life. You will not be disappointed!
